Midland on the Rise: Shaping What’s Ahead

Midland, Texas is quickly becoming a regional destination for new emerging industries and retail oasis. From the anticipated arrival of Costco in 2025, to its growing role as an aerospace and technology hub, Midland is strategically invested in itself and emerging as a regional destination.

Fueling the Future of Flight

Known as a hub for aerospace innovation, Midland has recently welcomed industry leader Starfighters Space, an aerospace and spaceflight company known for operating the world’s only fleet of commercially flight-ready F-104 supersonic aircrafts. Their location in Midland marks their second launch facility, allowing a greater geographic reach, and will be the homebase for Starfighters Hypersonic Testing initiatives. However, aerospace is not the only industry that is blasting off.

The Tech Hub of West Texas

Midland’s rise as a dynamic tech hub is fueled by a powerful combination of business‑friendly policies, robust growth in the tech sector, and strategic institutional support. In this year alone, the city supports over 200 tech firms and has attracted more than $100 million in venture capital in 2025, with top employers like SolarTech Innovations, Rackspace Technology, and Texas Instruments are developing strategic offices and training programs. Indicative of its broader appeal, Midland ranked among the top five best‑performing small cities in the U.S. according to the Milken Institute, thanks to its healthy labor market, high‑tech industry growth, and economic opportunity. Together, these factors underscore Midland’s evolution from an energy-focused city into a vibrant tech and business nucleus where entrepreneurs and established firms alike can thrive and call home.

Largest Costco in Texas

In order to accommodate this growth, retail is flooding into the area. This summer, Midland made headlines by having the largest Costco in Texas. The 180,000 square-foot store opened in July of this year and it is already bringing the community together. The wholesale retailer is popular for their $1.50 hot dog and soda combo and discounted gas, among other amenities. Located less than 15 minutes from The Vineyard, Costco is able to provide you and your family with anything you might need for any occasion or family get-together.

Future-Ready, Community Driven

Retail and industry growth is not all Midland has to offer however. Earlier this year, Midland had their official groundbreaking ceremony for construction of Zoo Midland. This nonprofit project is expected to open in mid 2028 and is the first zoo being built in nearly 25 years. The 52 acre zoo is expected to further Midland’s mission of becoming a regional destination and bring West Texas families together while preserving the beautiful natural landscape. The world class habitat facilities and zoo will be just 20 minutes away from The Vineyard, making it the perfect family-friendly activity all year long.
